Lactose intolerance is disorder when the body cannot sufficiently break down lactose (milk sugar). Lactose is a type of natural sugar found in milk and dairy products. If lactose is not broken down, it causes intestinal symptoms, such as bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. These symptoms are not dangerous, but they can be disconcerting and can impair the quality of life. Lactose intolerance may also occur transiently in case of intestinal infections or nutrient deficiencies.

Lactose intolerance cannot be regarded as an illness, since the majority of the world’s adult population is intolerant to lactose. Lactose intolerance is treated symptomatically and individually with a low-lactose or lactose-free diet. In situations, where only food that contains lactose is available (for example, when travelling, at parties, or in restaurants or cafés), Lactrase®/ Lactacaps® allow to enjoy dairy products without worrying about abdominal discomfort.

Lactrase®/ Lactacaps® contain natural lactase enzyme derived from the microbe Aspergillus oryzae. The enzyme breaks down the lactose in small intestine into easily absorbed sugar units (glucose and galactose) thus preventing abdominal and intestinal symptoms.  The efficacy of  Lactrase®/ Lactacaps® has been proven in clinical trials. The studies have included both adults and children.*
